“Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”
To make cities more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Half of humanity, 3.5 billion people, now live in cities and this number is expected to increase to 5 billion by 2030.
The world’s cities occupy only 3% of the earth, but account for 60% to 80% of energy consumption and 75% of carbon emissions.
Rapid urbanisation is putting pressure on freshwater supplies, wastewater, the living environment and public health.
UN-Habitat, the United Nations housing and urban development agency, is working with Governments at the national and local levels to help them prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The UN-Habitat COVID-19 Response Planaims to do the following:
Support local governments and community solutions in informal settlements.
Provide urban data, schemas and evidence-based knowledge for informed decision making.
Mitigate economic impact and initiate recovery.
Find out about the cultural and natural heritage of your area. Visit heritage sites and write about them with a positive perspective.
Use public transport, city bikes and other environmentally friendly means of transport.
